REGISTRATION OPENS ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5 AT 10:00AM HST.
Description: Explore foundational metalworking techniques — cutting, shaping, forming, texturing, and joining metals — to create your own "tiny shiny" sculpture or jewelry. Your design will draw inspiration from the themes of the ALOHA NŌ exhibition, which invites us to see Hawaiʻi as a place of rebirth, resilience, and resistance, embodying aloha as a practice of compassion and care.
As Kanaka ʻŌiwi philosopher Dr. Manulani Aluli Meyer shares, “Loving is the practice of an awake mind.” In this workshop, you’ll engage with aloha as a creative and transformative force, building connections to the ʻāina (land) and each other. Visiting artist Sonya Kelliher-Combs will join the program to guide participants in designing interactive components for the exhibit.
Level: Ages 13-16
Please note: Registration for this program will close on Saturday, March 8 at midnight.
SPRING YOUTH PROGRAMS
About Our Programs: As a place of convergence, the Mill serves as both a community and a physical place–celebrating the power of the arts, bringing people, ideas and perspectives together. We are proud to offer adult and youth programs that focus on awareness of one’s individuality in the contexts of family, community and the natural world. Our exhibitions provide a space to reflect, share perspectives and grow as a community. Our classes & workshops are designed to inspire creativity, foster connections, and provide enriching experiences for all participants. We invite you to join us in the studio.
