Description: Celebrate the Hawaiian season of Makahiki through art, storytelling, and cultural exploration in this joyful four day long program. Guided by the values of peace, gratitude, and connection, and inspired by the harvest moon, keiki will create expressive paper masks that embody the spirit of Makahiki—a time of rest, offering, and renewal.
Each day, students will engage with moʻolelo (stories), local plant life, and hands-on materials as they design their own unique “Makahiki Moon Spirit” masks. Through creative play, visual thinking strategies, and movement, keiki will explore themes of abundance, nature’s cycles, and their roles within family and community.
The program will culminate in a festive Ho‘ike o ka Mahina, where families are invited to witness the unveiling of the masks and the sharing of stories under the glow of a moon-inspired celebration.
Level: Ages 6 – 8
Please note: Registration for this class will close on Saturday, October 4 at midnight.
