Event Description: Emily Grace Gleason (born 1988 in New Jersey, USA) is a ceramic artist who makes darkly humorous hand-built sculptures. Gleason recently completed two international artist residencies at Faenza Ceramic Art Center in Faenza, Italy and at Villa Karo, the Finnish Institute for West Africa in Gran Popo, Benin. Gleason got her start at the Donkey Mill Art Center as the ceramics studio apprentice from 2021-2022 and went on to earn her MFA in Sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2025. She returns this fall to teach No Wheel? No Worries! and give this artist talk about the last few years or her time off-island.

Event Details: The evening's program will start at 6pm after a welcome and potluck. This event is free and open to the public. If able, please bring a healthy dish to share and/or something to drink for a communal dinner. The artist talk will begin at 6:00pm.

More About Gleason: Passionate about the therapeutic power of clay, Gleason founded Clay for Recovery, an experimental program that brings ceramics workshops to communities affected by addiction. She has taught hand-building workshops and classes at the Donkey Mill Art Center, The Bridge House Hawaii, Clay Lounge Boston, Jamaica Plain Recovery Center, and Villa Karo in Benin. Her work has been exhibited in national juried exhibitions including The State of Clay and the Hawaiʻi Craftsman. Find Emily on her website and Instagram

About Our Programs: As a place of convergence, the Mill serves as both a community and a physical place–celebrating the power of the arts, bringing people, ideas and perspectives together. We are proud to offer adult and youth programs that focus on awareness of one’s individuality in the contexts of family, community and the natural world. Our exhibitions provide a space to reflect, share perspectives and grow as a community. Our classes & workshops are designed to inspire creativity, foster connections, and provide enriching experiences for all participants. We invite you to join us in the studio.
