Event Description: Journey into the enchanting world of low-budget, home-shot puppet films born from pandemic-era resourcefulness. This multi-media showcase brings you face-to-face with handcrafted puppets, presents a screening of several shorts, and offers a peek at a new film in the making. Discover how one local artist turned limited space (and talent!) into boundless visual storytelling.
Event Details: The evening's program will start at 6:00pm after a welcome and potluck. This event is free and open to the public. If able, please bring a healthy dish to share and/or something to drink for a communal dinner.
About the Artist: Daniel A. Kelin II is a theatre artist and film-maker dedicated to bringing underappreciated stories to light and has been affiliated with theatres and youth organizations in the US, across the Pacific and in India. During the pandemic, he pivoted to puppet films, notably the award-winning After the Endling, which has screened at 11 international festivals and aired on PBS. Others include In the Stillness of the Night, funded by The LearningTimes and the Puffin Foundation, and When I Waked, I Cried to Dream Again, named Best Experimental Animation in the Festival Internacional de Animación.
About Our Programs: As a place of convergence, the Mill serves as both a community and a physical place–celebrating the power of the arts, bringing people, ideas and perspectives together. We are proud to offer adult and youth programs that focus on awareness of one’s individuality in the contexts of family, community and the natural world. Our exhibitions provide a space to reflect, share perspectives and grow as a community. Our classes & workshops are designed to inspire creativity, foster connections, and provide enriching experiences for all participants. We invite you to join us in the studio.
