Event Details: The evening's program will start at 6:00pm after a welcome and potluck. This event is free and open to the public. If able, please bring a healthy dish to share and/or something to drink for a communal dinner.
About the Film: Bawa’s Garden is a road movie in search of the work of renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. The film follows a protagonist as she traverses the island in pursuit of the ‘lost’ garden of Lunuganga. While the treasure may be the goal, the journey sparks encounters with vivid characters and rarely seen buildings that reveal the story of Bawa’s life and legacy. Shot across Sri Lanka, this experimental docudrama blends dreamlike narrative with real people and places intrinsic to Bawa’s world. Eclectic and quietly moving, the film echoes the spirit of Bawa’s architecture—and the collaborators who helped shape it.
This event is connected to a Young Architects Workshop for youth, grades 6-12, on Saturday, October 24 from 10:00am - 3:00pm. Learn more and register here.
About Architecture Month: For 20 years, AIA Honolulu has celebrated Architecture Month with an exciting array of public events. This annual series features a dynamic mix of free and for-cost activities that underscore the transformative power of good design in making our communities better places to live, work, and play.
World Architecture Day is celebrated on the first Monday of October, coinciding with the UN's World Habitat Day. The International Union of Architects chose this day to encourage reflection on the state of our towns and cities and to promote the fundamental right to adequate shelter. It serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility for the future of human habitats.
About Our Programs: As a place of convergence, the Mill serves as both a community and a physical place–celebrating the power of the arts, bringing people, ideas and perspectives together. We are proud to offer adult and youth programs that focus on awareness of one’s individuality in the contexts of family, community and the natural world. Our exhibitions provide a space to reflect, share perspectives and grow as a community. Our classes & workshops are designed to inspire creativity, foster connections, and provide enriching experiences for all participants. We invite you to join us in the studio.
