Activating Our DNA

In March 2023, internationally renowned artist, Michel Tuffery, traveled from Aotearoa to participate in our exhibition Mai Ka Pouli: (Re)presentations of Moananuiākea, as well as engage with community as the Mill’s 2023 Artist-in-Residence. During his residency, he led a workshop with students from the Hawaiian language immersion school, Ke Kula ‘O ‘Ehunuikaimalino. Students came to the Mill to participate in a three-day program where they created a special project of relief prints inspired by historic images they selected from LACMA’s Pacific Island Photography Collection.

See what unfolded during this exchange as Michel led students to tap into their own DNA and create something new.
