A cornerstone of the West Hawaiʻi art community for 28 years, the Donkey Mill Art Center presents their annual art auction ‘Splash’ featuring over 75 unique works by emerging and established artists. The organization offers individuals a variety of ways to participate in this special event.
Artwork will be on view, free and open to the public, at the Donkey Mill gallery at 78-6670 Mamalahoa Hwy, Holualoa, HI 96725 from February 4 – 24, Wednesday – Saturday from 10 am – 6 pm. For those that would like to purchase works, the online silent auction opens Saturday, February 11th at 10 am and participants must register here. The live auction event will be held Saturday, February 25 at 5 pm and is by invitation only.
“The collection of art featured in the auction presents a snapshot of the Mill’s critically important work, with each individual piece representing a unique relationship with our community. The auction features art from world-renowned visiting artists, works by our inspiring teaching artists, exceptional pieces by the Mill’s founders, board and staff members, artwork from exhibiting artists, program participants, and pieces from talented local artists. We are all so grateful for this special hui of artists which converge each year,” says Donkey Mill Curator Mina Elison.
Each artist featured in the event represents a bond between the Donkey Mill and the community, which ripples ever outward. Notable artists include John Buck, Robert Corsair, Hiroki Morinoue, Melanie Yazzie, Clayton Amemiya, Lynn Capell, Roen Hufford, John Koga, Wayne Levin, Setsuko Morinoue, Mayumi Oda, and Margo Ray.
Artworks in the auction are in a variety of mediums including printmaking, ceramics, painting, fibers, and photography. Works range in price from $100 to $10,000 dollars. This event is a special opportunity for art enthusiasts in Hawaiʻi and beyond to engage with a diverse, critically acclaimed collection of work and support the future of art in West Hawaiʻi through their purchase.
